Just thought all of you would get a good smirk out of this. I am out of town working and the hotel wifi did this when I was looking at AK slings .......

Truly sad. When I put Norton parental controls on my sons computer, one of their defaults was to block all weapons sights.

If you leave a computer on at home, leave a copy of SSH running on it. Then you can create a SOCKS proxy to it from your remote location using a (windows) program called PUTTY and tunnel all your traffic through your home PC (in an encrypted fashion). It is a great way to bypass filters and proxies like that and secure your connection in remote places.

That will keep you from spending your hard earned money when out of town on business.
Let me get this straight...when I leave home, I leave a copy of some magazine I've never heard of, put some putty in a sock and stick it on my computer near the window then dig a tunnel to bypass the traffic. After than connect it to a filter located in some remote place? I think I'll just stay home!![]()

My appologies, I didn't mean to confuse. My HATRED of internet censorship, which is what the hotel is doing is second only to that for spammers and stems from a crevice deep within my body. I forget sometimes that even though this is an Internet forum, that some tech things that have become intuitive to me aren't necessarilly intuitive to others, much like using the term "limp wristing" would mean something totally different to someone not familiar with firearms.I was hoping to provide enough keywords to Google a sufficient how to document. Of course, Whec724 understood what I was referring to, as he and I are compatriots in the realm of computer security (Whech724, as an aside, I've been meaning to ping you via PM on this subject).
More simply, on your home PC, you can run a program like freeSSHd that will listen for remote connections and while you are away, such as at a hotel, use a program such as PUTTY to allow you to safely use your home internet connection from places like hotels. This lets you get around any censorship on things like weapons, as well as prevents the hotel from monitoring or listening in on your online activity. Technical acronyms aside, it is pretty easy to set up and do and I would be happy to discuss / help anyone via PM, so as not to get too many rolling eyeballs.

noway2...... Bless your heart! THAT explaination help a little more.
Having utilized more than a few hotel internet connections, that'll help get around some of that non-sense.

This seems once again a prime example of socialism. As for another hotel....
