Or something like it? How about a Tesla Coil Generator shooting 100,000 volts of lightning at your foe?
(That's right, one hundred thousand volts!) Puts Tasers to shame... A bit clunky for now... but... who knows...
There's a video and it's a bit long, and some clickable links....

A Tesla coil might be a bit hard to aim, but if you are surrounded by zombies, no problem. While I do want something i can use to cut steel plates in the shop, the Klingon Disruptor is my weapon of choice. No pesky bodies laying around to be used in eveidence.

Going to be hard to find an IWB holster to fit it though.
When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk.

great referance to steampunk.
the 'new' sci-fi.
actually is really, really going back to roots. but there is some good reading
and this tool most certainly belongs on the Jupiter 2 protecting little Will
as i've noticed about others--that they do not always do as i think they will nor often as they say they will.
this not only makes life interesting, it makes it dangerous too.
For Sale 1985 Toyota Supra. one owner, 82K, will pass inspection, only needs some body/rust patching

100,000 volts is really nothing. There are stun guns that pop over a million volts. What kills you is the amperage.

I'd consider springing for repulsor beam technology!
If 'mental illness' is a main cause of gun-grabbing sentiments, then mental illness is the true enemy.

8" to 18" range? I guess you could beat somebody over the head with it.

Or shot placement!
[/end standard future 'amperage' debate]

Exactly. Everyone is hung up on voltage. I can laugh off a 100,000v "stun gun", yet a 120v wall outlet can jack me up. All about the current.
I dont know about this type of gun, but hopefully in the future I can get my hands on some sort of phazer or photon blaster. Much easier to find batteries than ammo, especially during an election year

That's really cool. I may be under thinking it, but it might not be all that difficult, being pretty much a solenoid. You could probably use a small magnet to hold the bearing, at the base of a chamber and release it just before discharging into the primary coil, which would sit before a rifled barrel.
The magnetic strength, being proportional to the current, you could develop a bazillion Tesla, briefly - which is all you need, by dumping the DC capacitor into a low resistance, high reactance coil. The ball would then accelerate rapidly down the barrel. BANG! For sure! Heavy, but quiet, and effective and could be made without moving parts (sans the bullet).

Hey we now have handheld "communicators" like Enterprise crew used, phasers may not be that far in the future.

The gubermint will create a new permit system and fees for phasers unless there is a treaty related issue with the UN.
