. And they had what I guess you can call a commercial for Outback Steakhouse. A woman is talking about her army career and then how she became a pilot flying combat missions. Then they show her and her friends sitting down in a resteraunt and she says "I like to support places that support us so I support them". I think it is disgusting on 3 levels
1. That Outback uses a soldier to market themselves
2. A soldier is willing to participate in the 'commercial'
3. The army allows it.
My 2 cents.

I guess it depends on what the Outback actually does for veterans.
I shop at Sears because they take care of us, so I try to buy from them.

If she's on active duty, it's a violation of the JER. If not, it's hard for the Army to do anything about it.
1 and 2, I agree with you.
As to sentence #3 in your post... I hope you have good friends that can perform an intervention for you.

That is cool. But I am talking about the blatant use of a soldier so they can make profits. They can omit the soldier and just say they support the troops.

I see your point. I guess it doesn't bother me as long as they deliver the goods and not just talk the talk.

What kind of seak did she order?
It's Military Appreciation, at least in some way.
Compared to the time periods in late '60s through the late '70s and the time between 9/11 and the post-2008 'magical sudden quiet' from the astroturf Anti-War/Anti-Military Progressives (the paid protesters dried up), I'll take any positive image that caters to the Military in general, as long as it is not over the top missrepresentation of the real support given.

Why not use a soldier as your way of saying you support the troops? The message is the same, so what difference does it make if you actually show a soldier? Should soldiers not be used to promote anything? I see nothing wrong w/ it at all. Maybe you guys can shed some light on it for me as well, because I don't see the problem.

I just can't be offended and outraged at every little thing. I see what you're saying but I'm still OK with the prime rib.

If they actually do something for our service men and women then I will eat there even though their food selection is lacking and overpriced. They only way to reinforce behaviors that are in line with our beliefs is through financial support (or the lack thereof), which is also why I don’t eat at Champps or patron establishments that post the anti-signs.

Whats wrong with outback saying they support the troops? I thought soldiers were supposed to have tough skin. Even if this commercial isn't "PC", they are doing more good than harm. Would you rather private industries be advertising the opposite? Sheesh, people get their panties in a wad over anything these days.

I agree, there was a lot of that crap going on after 9/11.
My son's school pictures came with unsolicited bookmarks with my sons picture imposed over the world trade center. I was disgusted and let them have it.

Does anyone actually know what The Outback does for vets? What do they do?

Have not seen the commercial. Are they using real military personnel or actors?
