FYI - Official List Of Words Feds Monitor On Social Networking Sites (from Feb)

Tuesday, February 28, 2012 (so this is a bit dated - but I had not seen it before)

The Feds have been forced to release their social network monitoring manual, which contains the list of words the government watches on social media and news sites.

    .................

Several Lists of word groopings are associated with different areas of concern and can be found at the link (below).

Basically, most basic sentences about most basic topics have the potential to get you flagged.

This is For Your Information (FYI). I know it's a bit dated. But it did make me think of what Big Sis is thinking of what I have typed in the past.

That list would mean any regular poster on the forum has been flagged many times.

I don't believe it. If that is a real list it is useless.

Doesn't really work that way. Do the math: Can't be more than 10,000 analysts snooping and spying on our web activity, phone calls, email, etc. Oh, they certainly do spy. You might remember some of the embarrassment that occurred when it was revealed that the NSA routinely copies recordings of our citizens overseas who call their spouses back here at home. They like the steamy ones, and laugh it up, voting for their favorites.

This isn't tin-foil hat stuff at all. They do have the technology and resources in place to monitor absolutely every single thing you do with communications.

Problem is, there's only about 10,000 of these snooping clowns, and there's something like 100,000 people on the Do Not Fly list alone.

So, they have to prioritize. Last I read about this, they use a kind of flagging system. If you post a comment online and use a trigger word, like "bomb" or "terrorist" or "sarin," etc., that's a point. If you're on a watch list, another point. If you're talking to somebody overseas, point. If your name is Arabic-sounding, like "Muhammed al-ibn Mustapha," point. If you've traveled recently, point. Recent movements of money, point.

As the points add up, you move up higher in the system until an analyst finally pulls you up on screen and starts investigating you.

Ok, so they post a list of words they monitor, so that we know what they monitor and can take steps to use code words for the words they monitor? For real?

That's like telling someone we are going to attack you and describe it long before we ever do it.

    Smart. Really, really smart.
