Flying the Flag - 9/11/06
Something today is bothering me, and that is, in a sub-division of 300 homes, my homeis the ONLY home flying the flag on this day of rememberance. I am ashamed of my fellow citizens in that they have no respect to the dead in such a disaster in our nations history. Sure, right after the 9/11, alot of folks went out and bought flag sets and put them out, but I have not seen them out since then, even on other days set aside for rememberances. I also display my flag on Dec 7th, 4th of July, Flag Day, Vetrans Day, etc.
Maybe I am a goofy patriot, who knows? I had to go to town around noon, and on the way, I looked down the side streets at house, looking for flags, and didnt see a one. I did see a small flag mounted on a side mirror of a dump truck though.
Even though I was in the service ('59-'63) and didnt see action, I still respect those who did fight and die in the conflicts or wars, as they were protecting our way of life here in the USA, but I think the citizens of the US are warry of flying the flag, thinking they would be called War Mongers. We are at war on several fronts, not just Iraq and Afganistan, but also war with Mexico at the border. We are being invaded, not just by Mexicans, but others sneaking across the border not of latin blood. Is it going to take another 9/11 to have the flags fly again?? I hope not.
Sorry if I offended anyone... my 2 cents worth..
As we remember and honor the innocent victims of the attacks of 9/11/01, perpetrated by finatical Islamic terrorists five years ago, today. All who were lost that day, the people in the towers, airline passengers and crews, military personnel at the Pentagon, police officers, firefighters and emergency personnel each died a tragic death. May they rest in peace. My thoughts and sympathy go to the thousands of family members who lost their loved ones that painful day in our nations history. They must relive that day each year that passes. We must prevail over terrorism. God bless America.
