This is a discussion on Pastor of Snake Handling Church Killed By Rattlesnake within the Off Topic & Humor Discussion forums, part of the The Back Porch category; "DOH"...
Just now I was pondering the immortal words of Socrates who said, "I drank WHAT???" (cheap steal of a line from the movie Real Genius)

My inlaws live in the hills of eastern KY. When I first met them they asked me if I went to church. I said I would if I were'nt afraid of snakes...
I'd rather be lucky than good any day
There's nothing that will change someone's moral outlook quicker than cash in large sums.
Majority rule only works if you're also considering individual rights. Because you can't have five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for supper.
Like Forrest Gump once said, " Stupid is as Stupid does!"
If you are going to shoot at Mimes, should you use a silencer?? ( Steven Wright)
Reminds me of a Jerry Clower routine.
Jerry and Marcel go to a revival meeting.
As the meeting really gets going the preacher dumps a basket of snakes on the floor and grabs one up.
Seeing this Jerry looks around then asks Marcel if he saw a back door.
After Marcel says he did not see a door Jerry asks him “Recon where they want one”.
I miss him and his brand of humor.

"The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it".
But what kills me in these "faith miracle"-type situations is how important these people must think they are to think that God would swoop down and keep a snake from biting them, a train from squashing them, the other team from beating them, the sperm from getting their egg, etc. It's biology and physics that run the show. Biology and physics. Remember what gravity does? It works. Every time.
It's called freedom of religion and it's totally legal in West Va. They have their religious beliefs as to why he died from the bite also.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. Because it's in English, thank a vet
It would appear that the snake was not familiar with the scripture.
"He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one." – Luke 22:36
"If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." – Thomas Jefferson
Well ..... DUUUUUUUUUHHH
Asked by a CNN reporter "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist"?, the Marine sniper simply shrugged & replied "recoil".
Now more than ever, we are at war on our home soil ... WAKE UP & arm our troops when they are on home soil!
Cases like this one can't do much for recruitment.

Politicians, take note of Colorado 9/10/2013."You are elected to service, not power.
Your job is to "serve us" not to lord power over us."
Some days you're the windshield, somedays you're the bug.
When it comes to snakes, my philosophy is simple. kill it. Venomous, non venomous, I don't care. Some people come up with the good ol "oh, they are more afraid of you then you are of them". They're damn right to be afraid, as they are toast as soon as I see them. I just don't like animals who can kill me in a heartbeat just because they woke up with their scales in a bunch.
That isn't faith: it's stupidity. Jesus was talking about his disciples after Pentecost (who were able to do these miraculous things as a witness to the truth and authority of the Gospel message as they were building the early Church, not as a parlor trick to show how holy they were).
Jesus also said that you should not tempt God. The pastor should've read Matthew 4 a few times.
It saddens me when those who are ignorant of the scriptures make headlines like this through their ignorance.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9
