IIRC, having the vehicle registration was also at one time some sort of 'proof' that it was okay for you to have the car in your possession. That it wasn't stolen. That you had the owner's permission. In that if you didn't have the registration, you had some explaining to do.

Here in NY the sticker that goes onto the windshield is the reg. The one in your pocket is the reg receipt.

So when you get stopped the correct answer "It is on the windshield" But that reply will get you a ticket for sure.

NY guys look at the windshield tomorrow.

[QUOTE=SIXTO;2302028]There it is mainly. Anymore, I run the plate on your car and I see the electronic version of the registration. As long as everything matches up, the paper one is useless to me. I never ask for the registration, unless there is some BMV error or some other problem and I'm looking for more information. Some, if not most, states require the registration to be kept with the car. A lot of states its a sticker that must be displayed. You get that when you purchase your plates.[/QUOTE
In Wisconsin the registration applies only to truck plates. It states on the renewal doc itself to keep it in your possession in the truck.
