Uh, no, I would say that it surely isn't a true story. Now, if it was about a couple from Indiana saying the same thing, then I'd be a little more inclined to believe it........

And to think the hard-working, laboring farmer with sun-baked leathery skin was the source of the term. 'Course, ya don't see many of them, anymore.

    Sounds perfectly logical to me.

Don't get so defensive. They're everywhere. We even have a few up here in MT.

Actually I believe the term "redneck" came from the fighting between coal companies and the Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency against the United Mine Workers attempt to unionize the miners in Logan County WVa. The union miners wore red neckerchiefs to distinguish themselves from their persecutors. The conflict culminated in the "Battle of Blair Mountain". Very interesting stuff as Gen. Billy Mitchell engaged in illegal aerial bombing of the entrenched miners at one point.

You're right Mike. You and I both know there ain't no native Tennesseeans named "Kosmitis".

Not defensive, we just recently moved back to the real world of Tennessee from Indiana. Honestly, I did not in a million years go to Indiana thinking that it was going to be what it ended up truly being. I'm not going to go into a big thing here but I will say this: Anyone who thinks that the South is racist has never lived in both the South and the Midwest. The Midwest has the South beat in that department by a long, long, long shot. There is no comparison. And also, the South does not have a corner on the market of Rednecks. Good Lord, the Rednecks I saw in the Midwest made me blush. And I'm a Redneck! I'm not trying to be mean but, the Rednecks in Indiana were more of the "extreme trailer trash" variety than the "Southern Good old Boy" variety. Plus, we saw more big trucks with the Rebel flag on them up there than we ever have here in the South. Still haven't figured that one out.

I honestly believe there are just as many rednecks here in Florida as there are back home in Tennessee. As stated above, they are all over the country.
