DEAD!!!! WC #7 stopped a round from my .22. It was about 70 yds out in the soy beans and I could only see him when he stood up to look around. I got rested on my split rail fence and dropped him. : )

I thought I was all out of woodchucks but they keep showing up. I guess I'll keep killing them. : )

Ya ain't supposed to brag about scores until you're in double digits.
It's like making a touchdown, act like you've been there before, and coming back real soon.
It is pardonable to be defeated but never surprised.

But I thought I was an ace after 5??

On a more serious note: I have no idea why I'm having so much fun shooting these things, but it is REALLY fun. I hope they keep showing up all summer.

Hunting hones skills well, and varmit shooting makes you think about all of your shooting habits, good and bad. Trigger, breathing, sighting, it's all there to work on, with small targets at distances that make it fun.

Nothing wrong with shooting a target of opportunity.

I would rather stand against the cannons of the wicked than against the prayers of the righteous.

I'm impressed that you took him out at that range with a .22 LR! They can be pretty tough critters, demanding a head shot. If you just wing 'em, they move at warp speed into a nearby hole.

The CZ is really accurate. It's sighted in at 50 so I held the cross hairs on the bottom half of his head expecting it to hit somewhere.

At first I was resting on a fence rail but at that range I couldn't get steady on him. So I slid left about a foot and used the post and the rail to get steady. When the trigger broke he went right down. I hit him right at the base of the skull and he shut off like I flipped a switch. It took me a little while to find him in the beans but I did.

The best part was that my 2 yo was with me the whole time. He kept asking me "Dead Daddy? Dead?". I got to show it to him and say "yep."

Those critters breed like rabbits and will keep providing plenty of targets.

Earlier this summer my step dad borrowed my .22 rifle. He told me he had 3 groundhogs he needed to kill. He's killed 12 so far. My old Glenfield may have bit the dust in the process. And he just bought a Marlin model 60 to use. A guy just over a block away counted 19 of them on the hill beside the town swimming pool. The town is now trying to pass an ordinance allowing residents to shoot groundhogs with .22s because they are taking over the town. If this does not stop they will start demanding to vote and get city water/sewer.
