My father
My father is getting up there in years, late 70's. He had not shot a rifle in over forty years so I took him out to the range this morning. The weather was not ideal, rain and cooler temperatures. He was not sure he should go, but I convinced home to come along.
I loaded up the 77/357 with 38 Special rounds and handed him the rifle. I watched as my father walked the rounds into the 8 ring with 12 shots total fired. His hands are not steady anymore and his eyesight is not sharp either. The man had the biggest smile I have seen on his face in years. Priceless.
He said to me, "I think I need to get one of these rifles. Don't know where or when I'll shoot it, but I'd like to have one around the house."
My father also shot my 30-30 Marlin, just one round. He said he always wanted to try one. He got his wish. He took his target with him when he finished up.
Though our shooting time was short today, the memory will be treasured always.

We are going to Florida to visit my parents next week. My dad is 86 years old and he was the one that took me out shooting on our farm when I was a kid. I will be bringing my Glock 30 along. After reading your post, I'm going to see if I can get him to a range. You brought back alot of great memories. Thanks so much for the idea!

Glad you had the time.
My dad was a hunter, but not much of a paper puncher enthusiast. What little time he went to the range with us is in the memory bank, as are all the crazy fun filled times at hunting camp with the guys.
Was with us @ deer camp 2009, and New Years day 2010 , he was gone

Hey folks (especially you ctr), CHERISH every moment you can. Sit down, kick back and hang out with the "old folks". I took care of both mom and dad by myself since 1999. Dad passed in 2008 and mom passed last year. Oh how I wished I could have had 5 more minutes with them, 5 more minutes that will never come.....

Diamond Rio - One More Day (Official Music Video) - Video
JONES, STEVEN DALE/TOMBERLIN, BOBBY
Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished, for one more day with you
One more day
One more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again
I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still, for one more day with you
First thing I'd do, is pray for time to crawl
Then I'd unplug the telephone
And keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That's what I'd do, with one more day with you
If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.
