I've got a fun little Walther P22 but when I think about the possibility of taking that out with me, I just dismiss it. The smallest I'm ok leaving the house with is a .380. I'd much rather have my .45 or .9mm, but sometimes circumstances dictate the round.

Really? My P22 accompanies me frequently. Sometimes it's even the primary carry. Stick some Velocitors or Minimags in it, you'll be fine. Just ask my aunt!

Well.....since I'm not paying through the nose to the elite authorities to own an automatic weapon................I'm sticking to my 9mm as basic/minimum. Otherwise...I might look at things differently.

380ACP but if all I had available was a 22LR it is not like I wouldn't give it a shot.

Kel-Tec P-32 with mag extension, using FMJ. Penetration is about the same as .380. It is 9 rounds in a very small, lightweight, concealable, controllable package. It is my summer gun when I can't carry anything bigger. I can even stick it in my bathing suit pocket. I just don't go in the water with it.

i bought a taurus pt22 poly recently. it's alright. i throw it in my pocket if i am taking out the trash instead of strapping on the glock.

gun is a gun. gutshot twice with a .40 or eight times with a .22 is still gutshot.

Smallest I would carry is a 2-1/2"44 mag!! When I say protection I mean protection. The Ruger Alaskan is a fine example. Nothing like looking down the barrel of a howitzer. Ha ha. Now a dude with a knife says give me your money....I pull the 44 and say not thinking so. He says i gotta go change my pants!
It's not a problem til they make it one!

Wow. Apologies to you all: I recognize that you are all big boys and girls and have made your decisions based on the best information you have about ballistics, your skill level, the types of clothes bad guys wear, concealability, and all sorts of other factors. No criticism! Thanks for sharing what you've written.

But... but... situational awareness, folks! Did nobody read the original post? Maybe it is just as well: after consideration I realize that the original post was in poor taste, and I *would* like to apologize.

Depending on circumstance Ill carry either my 32 my 380 or a 9mm. Such as deep concealment or a grab and go gun.
