    at first glance this looked like a good idea then I started to think "for what; locking someone in"

    That is exactly what it is for. If you don't have time to properly clear every room you pass you can secure the doors so they can't jump out behind you.

    Yep, doesn't work on door that open inwards if you're trying to keep the bad guys out.

    that was what I was thinking, it was a door lock for security like in a hotel or front door

    Those almost always open into the room, making this pretty useless. Unless you put it on the outside so whoever is in the room can't get out.

    I don't know about anyone else I am a gadget freak so when I seen this, I thought it was backwards but never thought of law enforcement
