Happy National Airborne Day!
To all my fellow paratroopers - hoist a beer, blouse your boots, and celebrate another day above dirt. Airborne!
"I was that which others did not want to be. I went where others feared to go. And did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those who gave nothing, and reluctantly accepted the thought of eternal loneliness, should I fail. I have seen the face of terror, felt the cold sting of fear, and enjoyed the sweet taste of a moment of love. I have cried, pained and hoped, but most of all I have lived times others would say were best forgotten. At least someday I will be able to say I was proud of what I was!" - An Airborne Soldier
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

Right back at you, and everyone else who understands that "7 to 13 knots on the dropzone" is jumpmaster-speak for "this is gonna hurt".

Why on earth would you want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, and then hang in air like a pretty target?
Just kidding of course, I have lots of respect for you airborne guys, and I'm sure that it did beat walking.

Welcome back, JDE, and sorry to hear about your loss...

Never jumped an Osprey, suntzu (after my time), but I did jump a C-5, an AN-2 Colt (biplane), and an Mi-8 Hip, among more mundane fixed and rotary winged aircraft. And all as a lowly junior enlisted who had never been to MFP or Jumpmaster school... :)

June 22 1967 "battle of the slopes"! Great men died because of piss poor leadership. Anyone above Major should have been removed from command.

It's all a function of locating the anemometer close enough to one's body. :)
