Big mosquitos.Mosquitos Kill Two More
Of course, it's the little guys inside (viruses) that do the damage. Too bad the little buggers can't be seen or guarded against, except for squashin' the skeeters as they approach. Bummer, that they're nearly silent. Stealth mosquitos ... Grrr-rrrr.
The west nile disease is not something to make light of. Some of the people it did not kill can disable them in a lot of ways. I lost my older brother from west nile in 1993 after being in the hospital for a month, which two weeks of that was on life support. If they don't get a handle on the situation it could grow a lot faster than it is. West nile is far from a major killer but mosquitos can give people other diseases.
Arguably that was one of the first instances of "Junk / Extremist Science" prior to "Global Warming". Raquel Carson became a celebrity. Thousands die in Africa. West Nile is very serious here in the USA.......I once read an article that accused the author of "Silent Spring" of being the greatest mass murder in history as the book led to the DDT ban, which incidentally, is the best mosquito pesticide.
"He went on two legs, wore clothes and was a human being, but nevertheless he was in reality a wolf of the Steppes. He had learned a good deal . . . and was a fairly clever fellow. What he had not learned, however, was this: to find contentment in himself and his own life. The cause of this apparently was that at the bottom of his heart he knew all the time (or thought he knew) that he was in reality not a man, but a wolf of the Steppes."
