Luckily you were diagnosed and treatment started, the longer you let it go, the worse it is. Was it caused by Mosquito's? We are having fun with West Nile Virus caused by them in several parts of the US right now.

I have to plead ignorance on modern treatment of Malaria. Can it be cured or is it just managed like diabetes and some other diseases?

Malaria can be cured but it takes some time for the treatments to be effective.

Hope you get better soon.... my understanding is that it can come back on you later as well.

My Doctor nearly killed me ... he gave me the malaria meds to take, and I always cross check with my reliable pharmicists first..... and he did some checking on it.... and told me "absolutely DO NOT take one of those pills" ...... comes out, they interact with another medication I was taking and the first symptom is .... your heart stops. I asked if that was a 'risk' or a 'fact'..... he said, the risk is 100% that your heart would stop. The pharmicist educated the doctor and changed it to one of the "old standbys".

Sorry to hear you got it. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

    Malaria

Same thing happened to me in 1998. I'd spent some time in Ghana working at a placer mine in the middle of no where. Didn't take the meds long enough after my return. The ER docs that treated me ( in Sandy, Utah) had never seen a case before, and were excited to see their first case....they thought it was great! I can say from personal experience the fever and chills are absolutely no fun. The good news is the right meds will kill the parasite.

Had to take it in Korea too. We were handed the pill in the mess hall, and some medic stood there and made sure we actually took it. (And then there were the GG shots!)

Take your meds until they are gone, you don't want it to deveolp resitance and get better
