Actor R. Lee Ermey, Geico's drill-sergeant-therapist, says he was fired from commercial for criticizing Obama | Fox News

But in 2010, Ermey slammed the president’s policies, saying his administration was attempting to “impose socialism” on the American people and, in the process, was “destroying the country,” TMZ reports.
Shortly afterward, he apologized for making the comments, but not before Geico decided to give him the boot.

I wonder why he felt the need to apologize?

I know hes a bit of a celebrity so he is expected to appologize but really, why should he? He's better off. Geico is still playing that Gecco punn anyways (after how many years) so why do they really need anyone?

Fame has it's rewards... It also has it's downside... The people who write your checks may not like the real you. And, you can't be that... the real you.. you gotta be "on" all the time...

This. Lost a little respect for him for his apology, though I understand why he did that. He makes a living in the media these days and needs to keep positive PR. I suspect he's not really "sorry" for what he said, but more that he said it and it resulted in negative consequences for him. He needs to preach it anyway, in my opinion.

    9. We have learned from bitter experience that discussions of certain subjects (politics, religion, abortion, sexual orientation, etc) often degenerate quickly. For this reason, we DO NOT allow the discussion of these topics. We also discourage "caliber war" threads and strongly encourage you not to post a thread starting one. Regardless of your level of experience, caliber is a personal preference and what is right for you may not be right for others.
