from the leaf pattern it looks like a squash of some kind
pretty sure it is a growing pumpkin-----we have about 14 of them, all growing from the spot where we planted pumpkin seeds---I hope that we can keep the freezing nights away long enough for them to ripen.
Watermelon allow to ripen, chill thoroughly, slice and enjoy.

Zucchini? Your family will have to take turns holding the gun on each other to make them eat it. Ick! Grow something good like corndogs or popsicles.

I get something like that growing in my pastures pretty regularly. The little melon (smells like one) never gets any larger. I can't tell in the scale of your photo, but the ones I see are usually a bit larger than a ping pong ball.
Spot treat with any broadleaf herbicide ought to zap them easily.
