Although the post was not directed towards me, QKShooter's post absolutely has to do with the First Amendment by way of filtering sites prevents the site's "speech" from reaching a desiring audience. I do recognize there instance where the public good (say filtering out pornography, for example) is served by filtering though absolutists would argue otherwise.

Now THAT is disturbing. A library funded with tax dollars? I'd be Don Quixote saddling up to tilt at that windmill pronto. Coffee joints and other private commercial places can limit all they want, but not a public library.

When it comes to coffee, at least 50% of the purchasing decision should be based on how they treat the coffee bean farmers (the other 50% is obviously taste and convenience). I cannot imagine having to then choose based on what WiFi they offer. It seems so silly.

I concur with the above posts that it is likely a default setting in a content filter application. I doubt if it is the company themselves making a statement. I would recommend that you send a letter stating that you tried to access (list of sites) and found them blocked. Then state why they should not be blocked and ask that they fix this.
I would reserve the threat of going elsewhere until you get their response, as they may agree with you.
@all, as a point of reference, restricting speech as a convenience or tool is NOT limited to the left or liberals.

Its called selective censorship and is nothing new.
Even this forum restricts what you can say or what you can post.
I would not be a customer of that establishment and ensure that management new why.
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

A fact that has been proved time and time again.
Find another coffee shop. Your coffee from someplace else won't leave such a bitter taste in your mouth.

The dell taco near me is the same way. Dc categorized as weapons? C'mon! I submitted it for review along with a complaint and will wait to see what happens. As if the food wasn't enough of a deterrent not to return....

Ah yes, ye old property rights argument again. The cure for everything from lack of libido to hair loss. There are three options here: 1) try to get them to change it (a possible win-win), 2) go somewhere else, 3) use a secure proxy to go around the filter (the data content is none of their business anyway.

You might be misunderstanding what the 1st Amendment is. It has nothing to do with a private business filtering what their WiFi emits, and everything to do with the government from trying to stop you from expressing yourself.
It's not QKS's error that's the concern (we should all be willing to make mistakes publicly, so that we can learn new things. Learning is good.), it was the vitriol targeted towards an outgroup combined with the error that was the concern. Mistargeted vitriol makes the world a worse place.

Not at all. I was thinking more of the 'illegal' porn or even 'hardcore porn'. I've never searched for these on any complimentary WiFi services, so I have no idea if there're filters already in place.
If 'mental illness' is a main cause of gun-grabbing sentiments, then mental illness is the true enemy.
The March of Dimes worked. There's an opportunity there for being pro-active in defense of your rights.
