    Drinking and driving.

    Drinking and driving.

I would like to share an experience with you about drinking and driving.

As you well know, some of us have been lucky not to have had brushes with the authorities on our way home from the various social sessions over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for a few drinks with some friends and had a few too many beers and then topped it off with a margarita. Not a good idea.

Knowing full well I was at least slightly over the limit, I did something I've never done before: I took a taxi home.

Sure enough I passed a police road block but because it was a taxi, they waved it past.

I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise.

I have never driven a taxi before and am not sure where I got it.

I hate it when that happens ...

TG I gave up clubbing & drinking in the mid 80's. Whenever I would go out I would nurse 1-2 drinks the whole evening.

When your dad is killed by a drunk driver when you are "9" , you grow up knowing there isn't anything funny about DUI. (Today, I'm an old grump and don't see anything humorous about alcohol period.)

While stationed at Grissom AFB in Ind. in the early '80s, there were many nights I don't even remember driving home from the NCO Club. That was at the peak of the hard drinking days in the Air Force, and the service began to crack down on it shortly thereafter. Since then I never have more than two drinks if I'm out, and take my time with those. I've often told my son that if I ever caught him doing the things I did I'd kick his butt--and he's 37 years old now! It's too bad youth is wasted on the young. Reality is such a difficult concept for them to grasp.

After a full day of BBQing and hanging around with friends we rode home about 80 miles. There was a sobriety checkpoint on Rt 49 stopping northbound traffic in one small town. I asked my wife if we should turn around and go through it. She just wanted to get home. I love it when they ask me "When did you have your last drink". 1987.

I called 911 two nights ago on a car ALL OVER the road. I couldn't give a good description, cuz getting close enough to do so wasn't safe. It was scary to be on the road with that fool.

Alcohol is very dangerous. It is IMO, the gateway drug.
Mineral water is a good replacement for strong drink.

    To the OP :

At least you had the presence of mind to take a taxi and not a Police vehicle with lights flashing and siren on full blast, holding the mounted shotgun in the car in one hand while driving. That could be a bit dangerous to say the least.

    Kudos to you!
