I have often wondered where this style came from. Did it come from a movie or TV show where those making it decided that they needed something different to spice things up a bit? Then got copied by viewers as the cool way to shoot in real life?
Or was it something that the movies picked up from actual instances in real life? Chicken or egg. Which was first?

It came about naturally from the homze having to reach down to pull their trousers back up with their off hand after removing their pistol from their waistband. The tug up with their off hand naturally caused their grip hand to rotate 90 degrees.Originally Posted by mlr1m

Watch how an officer/soldier who is carrying a shield holds his pistol out in front of the shield, and cants the pistol to bring it back as best he can to his line of sight. Doable with practice, since if the sights are still aligned, hits can be made. But, I'm willing to bet only shield guys practice that.
Later adopted by the homies cuz it looks cool.
