Warning shots: Not a good idea here
Shooting to wound: Not a good idea here...
But things are a little different in Malaysia (I think that's where this article was written)
“Therefore, there are several steps. If a citizen sees danger to the life of another person, in the case of a gun owner, the weapon owner
can fire warning shots if he is able to do so and if the warning is ignored by the aggressor, and there is danger to the victim's life, the weapon holder could use the weapon to
shoot the aggressor initially at non-fatal parts, like for instance the legs or arms.
“But if the danger to the victim is perceived to result in immediate death or serious injury to the victim, then the person with the weapon can shoot to kill the aggressor purely to avert the bigger danger.”
You guys have all been practicing wrong, and loading your guns wrong... the first two rounds should be blanks (that will cycle the action) so that no one is injured by your warning shots... and you should quit your Mozambique drills (2 C.O.M. and one to the head) and learn to hit non fatal parts like legs and arms...
or not...
But here's the Malay perspective: Story

I can see it now.
****sometime in the future****
First you must ask the attacker to stop. If the request is refused you may start telling the attacker to stop in a forceful tone of voice. If that does not work yelling will be allowed. The next step, if none of the previous attempts work, will be to throw rocks at the suspect. After the rocks have been thrown and the attack has not ceased you may fire 2 warning shots. If the attack persists you may target arms and or legs. If all of the above have not resulted in stopping the attack you may use deadly force to subdue the attacker.

They must be exceptional shots over there. Most people I know, even those who practice regularly, would be lucky to hit center of mass under stressful situations such as a gunfight.

If true ...
The article claims a person can use warning shots and can fire into the deadly assailant aiming at other than fatal zones ... not that the person must do so prior to daring to shoot intending to do more than merely wound.
Their statutes appear to allow for (a) warning shots to be lawfully used to terminate violent crime, and (b) deadly force to be used in situations of imminent threat of death or serious injury to the intended victim(s) based on the "lesser of two evils" principle. Seems fairly reasonable and straightforward. Heck, that's even greater allowance than in most states here in the USA. Unknown what it ends up being in practice, though (in Malaysia, if that's where the story was referring to).

Thoughts: Justifiable self defense.

disarming victims
