So, I saw this program on Iowa Public Television this weekend...

It was about shelter pets, dogs mostly... and a couple of dogs it followed from how they got to the shelter to how they are doing in their new adoptive homes... that's nice.

And then... there was another segment... About service dogs... from shelters...these were a bit different. We all know about service dogs that help the blind, the halt and the lame... people with physical disabilities... But these were different...

They were taken from shelters...

and trained...

trained to be companion/service dogs...

for returning soldiers...

not guys and gals with no limbs...

or blinded by an IED...

or otherwise physically disabled in any way....

Warriors, back from the battle, at home now...




with PTSD...


These are guys who see a garbage can at the curb, you know... it happens once a week here in America, the trash goes out...

But maybe the guy back from the sandbox thinks of an IED.....

Or, how about that deer carcass along the side of the road here in the states...

In the sandbox, insurgents are inserting IEDs in dead dogs along the side of the road...

To quote the guys about their dogs.... "I wouldn't be here if it weren't for ______.... She's/he's got my back... We both come from a rough patch..."

And so on... you get the idea...

What a great IDEA!
