While the article did not say he tried to catch it I do remember a thread here a year or two ago pointing out the hazard of trying to catch a dropped gun, don’t do it.
I assumed he grabbed for it. Correct me if I am wrong, most modern guns will not fire if they are dropped? Firing pin block, transfer bar?
It says he was picking it up off the floor, wonder how many adult beverages he had and his BAC.
Agreed on the joy juice and his BAC. I hope it was just a 'wardrobe malfunction' and wish the officer a speedy recovery. But, if he was drunk, he needs to be held accountable.
Course, he may have just rolled a hard 8 and had all his chips on that and was just celebrating.
As someone brand new to the gun world this has my apprehension level up.
In your opinion, what happened here? I thought that a gun can't fire unless you PULL the trigger. Now I hear it can.
Yes for a gun to fire the trigger has to be pulled. Guns don't fire by them selfs and a drop to the floor won't make them fire. Triggers can get caught on clothing or pushed/pulled by other objects. In this case most likely a finger. A good holster will prevent many misfires, keep your gun holstered unless you are ready to fire or handle it safely. Stories like these are a good wake up call for new and old gun owners, complacency kills.
