You are sitting on the New Madrid Seismic Zone. That is the largest fault zone in the continental US. People have been predicting a major quake there for years. The zone is centered on the borders of KY, IN, and IL and spreads out over eight adjoining states.

Look up New Madrid Fault Zone on Google. Then make a survival plan. If the big one ever comes, it'll flatten a huge area.

I didn't but a Facebook friend who lives here in southwest Indiana asked if anyone else felt it.

Yes, felt it. Not a very big one, and only about ten seconds in duration. But then, I wasn't nearby. A bit of shaking, swaying, with a bit of rattling of the windows.

Yeah, well. In California, the earthquake plans for "The Big One" are a bit different:

    • Evac Plan: Grab the kids and the camera, kissing the higher ground goodbye, 'cause it's just been flattened too.
    • Real Estate Plan: Grab the surfboard and camera, kissing the beachfront goodbye, just before the tsunami takes it all.

    * Long-time "quaker," here. Sylmar, Loma Prieta, Cape Mendocino, and dozens of somewhat smaller ones in between and since.

Head for LAX Imperial Terminal. That is going to be the staging point for supplies.
Southern California is not going to drop into the sea, but eventually LA will be north of San Francisco.

    Re: Earthquake

When the New Madrid fault goes again, the national recovery plan calls for the City of Memphis (which will get it big time) to be evacuated to Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Last time the New Madrid fault went, the Mississippi River ran backwards and the Church bells rang in Philadelphia.

I did not feel this quake, I was sitting in a Uhaul trailer behind some drums with other musicians being pulled along and playing for a Veteran's Day parade.

We had one in September of last year I believe and felt that a bit.

If we are in the New Madrid fault zone and we get the "big one" more so than the one in 1811 then we will be seing massive devestation.

If it hit Washington, DC then I would not worry too much, it may do a couple billion dollars worth of improvement.

    I didn't feel a thing here today.

I definitely felt the one we had last year.

I used to live in Japan and we had them all the time there. Most were fairly small but one I remember was a 7 on the scale. We lived on the 7th floor of a high rise and the whole building swayed like crazy.
