Went Deer Huntin' Again...
And this time, I got a deer!
Not the biggest in the world, but with 10 days left in the season and 2 more tags to fill, I wasn't being picky. This was the first deer I've seen on huntable land this season, and the 2nd deer I've seen total. He was good and edible, so he's hanging in my garage now.
Taken with one shot from the new AR, at about 150 yards. I had walked to the edge of a field and wasn't seeing anything, so I gave a quick grunt with my call, just for the heck of it. That little guy took off in a dead sprint running away from me. I made a pretty decent shot and he dropped like a rock.
So take THAT, all you .223 haters. This is the fifth deer I've taken with a .223, 55gr Winchester silvertips to be exact, and all of them were clean kills.

Pics.
Unfortunately the hunting laws in NM do not allow deer or elk hunting with .223 .

There's a few of the better ones. Did the one in the first post not show up?

It's not the caliber but the shooter. I've taken deer with the lowly 357.

Nothing wrong with the 55 Grainer's, I guess. There is a guy on the GON Forum (Georgia Outdoor News) that hunts hogs at night using 40 grain Fiocchi ammo and night vision sights and illuminators. They are quite successful at it but do a lot of head shots.

Zombie deer? Based on the gun, of course. Enjoy that meal!

You're not the first one to say that. Meat in the freezer, I say.

Obviously on private land. No one would be seen in public with a zombie sticker on their firearm.
