It seems to keep my marriage quite happy.
I've found it a lot easier to simply declare "I do want I want" from day one.
I have learned that the key to my marital happiness is that if I hear something I like or agree with, I am probably being lied to...much like the original post

I always do what I want. Guess that's why my relationships never seem to last. Too old to change now...
Been married to the same beautiful bride for 25 years. Old TV quit right before premier of Dancing with the Stars. Called her at work and told her. She said, and I quote, "Handle it." We now have a new 55" flatscreen. She never said a word.
That has been my number one rule during 50 years of married life. I call it staying alive.
Easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission. ;) Lol
