Football fields???? Why do people insist in using a useless meaningless expression as some sort of distance measurement? I have yet to find a conversion chart to convert “footfall fields” to a useful accepted measurement such as feet, yards, inches, centimeters, meters or other recognized distance.
People use many variations of measurement to explain distance, how far away something is, how long/far away was the shot taken from.
BUT.....
How long is a night-crawler? Well...which one: European, Garden, Canadian, African, Red? How young, old, a newborn? They all vary a lot?
How wide is an oak leaf? Which one: Red, White, Blue, Gray, Bowthorpe, Southern Live, Seven Sisters, Major, Crouch, Friendship, Royal? They all vary a lot?
Now an NFL football field which is the one commonly used is ONLY 300-ft/100-yds long goal line to goal line plus 30-ft/10-yds x2 = 60-ft/20-yds for the two end zones for a total of 360-ft/120-yd long overall.
Or a Canadian football field which is 330-ft/110-yds long goal line to goal line plus 30-ft/10-yds x2 for the two end zones = 60-ft/20-yds for a total of 450-ft/150-yds long over all.
Or do you mean a soccer field sometimes referred to as a football field. They can be a minimum of 300-ft/100yds to a maximum of 390-ft/130-yds long?
So personally if someone says: "I saw a 19-pointer and I took the shot", and they say: "It was a one-shot drop & it was a-boot two football fields away"!
I think in the calculation's as if it was; about 600-ft/200-yds away. YMMV but that's my story & I'm stickin to it.
Kind ah reads like a Monte Python move... :danceban:
Bridgekeeper: Stop. Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see.
Bridgekeeper: Hee, hee, heh!! What...is your name?
King Arthur: It is 'Arthur', King of the Britons.
Bridgekeeper: What...is your quest?
King Arthur: To seek the Holy Grail.
Bridgekeeper: What...is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
King Arthur: What do you mean? An African or European swallow?
Bridgekeeper: Huh? Well...I...I don't know that.....
[he the Bridgekeeper, is thrown over the edge of the cliff & into the volcano]
Bridgekeeper: Screaming as he's flung;....Auuuuuuuugh!!!!!!
Sir Bedevere: How do know so much about swallows?
King Arthur: Well, you have to know these things when you're a king, you know.

One afternoon I was EXACTLY 3 and one half days journey away from my home and only about eight furlongs away from my destination when I asked myself the very same question. In fact I wrote that very same question down when this person was trying to describe a distance to me in football fields and I had to convert that to cubits and the actual measurement was STILL two span and one handbreath short!
So I simply added a tadbit to the distance and then another smidgen after that...and then it was pretty much dead on the money.
