The military is willing to win; the elected leaders are not. Been that way since the early '50s. In WWII every military force was ready to "kill 'em all and Let God sort them out" but now it's "Try not to kill anyone and make sure you need to first." I don't see it ever changing short of WWIII.

Many enemy strongholds were off limits and the American military had to fight with one hand tied behind its back. Hal says: "On this day in 1968, I was in Saigon when the Tet offensive began. Leaving the next morning the roads were strewn with dead Viet Cong. We would have won that war and had half fewer deaths but for liberal politicians and those who protested even though we had troops in harms way.
"If you get into a war, and that should be very, very rare, you should fight with everything to win. The months after Tet changed America forever into a weak nation. Thank a Democrat."
A year or two ago I was in New Orleans on business with my boss and we ate lunch at a Japanese sushi bar & steakhouse. We asked our young chef what country he was from and he replied Vietnam. It so happened that a husband, wife, and adult daughter were seated at the same grill with us and the man was a Vietnam vet. Well this resulted in a very interesting conversation. Turns out the chef's grandfather had been a general in the South Vietnamese army (whom the U.S. was supporting) and when the war ended this grandfather had fled the country and settled in the U.S., which is how this young chef came to be serving us in New Orleans. The young chef was quite emphatic about how extremely disappointed his family was that the U.S. did not follow through for the victory when it was within our grasp. The veteran was in full agreement and, although he had nothing personally to apologize for, he and the rest of us commiserated with that young man for the sake of his family's loss, as well as the loss to our own country.

I would rather listen to the top ten worst American Idol auditions than here one more liberal say that 30 round magazines cause people to do evil things more than a 10 round magazine does.

The wind is blowing so strong, here, I can see the street lamp outside my window moving about a foot from vertical. I wonder how many tree limbs I'll find in my yard tomorrow morning.

From what I saw on the news tonight you folks in Georgia and Alabama really got hammered, just waiting for our turn should be coming through between 2am to 4am. They did show a house in Raleigh that had a tree fall across it fortunately no one was injured.

We woke up this morning to a huge branch from one of our White Pines blocking the street. My husband had to drag it onto our property before he left for work. We'll have to fire up the ole chain saw this weekend.

Big wind gusts all night long.

I'm rooting for the Boston Terrier! I have to say though, those Yorkies are very cute.

I'll have to pass that on to my D-in-L. She has a six second time limit.
