Red dye isn't healthy, but it is used in almost anything red you'd buy from the store. Soda, Jello, Cereals, Nutri-grain bars, Ice cream, Yogurt, etc.
Sorbitol occurs naturally in apples, pears, peaches, and prunes. It is a commonly used sugar alcohol in gum and other diet foods.
(From Wikipedia) The compounds used to produce artificial flavors are almost identical to those that occur naturally. It has been suggested that artificial flavors may be safer to consume than natural flavors due to the standards of purity and mixture consistency that are enforced either by the company or by law.

Wife came home with some twinkies last month, first time i had one in 20 years. They still taste like (can't say that here) dipped in plastic. I am not gonna miss them, but hate to see Americans lose jobs.
I don't always have nothing to say, but when I do, I post it on Facebook.

Ever been kicked out of a grocery store??? I have!!! One evening, many years ago, a buddy and I went out drinking and got rather hammered. About 6:00 the next morning, still about halfway popped, we ran to the store to pick up some coffee and something for breakfast. Walking down the aisle in the store, what should appear before my eyes but some fool dressed in a Twinkie the Kid outfit. You know that nothing good could come from that situation!!!

Just saw on CNN that Hostess might resume talks and the end might not be in sight.....yet
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

While the "Company" is at war with its labor force...and sister unions will not cross thier lines, effectively stopping production...the heavily "leveraged" looted bones of a once (long ago) profitable company, got rattled by the US trustee wanting to overturn (read WIpeout) its basic Capitol structure by switching from chptr 11 to 7...AND wants to compensate the Trustee management team with 1.75 mil in bonuses...now the looters are Challenged for control...all new legal ground, A-La Govermint Motors (Unions favored over Bondholder)......be hard to make this stuff=up...

Hostess Plans to Liquidate After Mediation Fails - WSJ.com
Hostess Brands Inc. will continue down the path to a full liquidation after a last-ditch mediation session with its striking bakers' union failed to save the Twinkie maker.
Interesting comments given the Teamsters agreed to their contracts, and their workforce is more mobile and employable due to truck driver shortages. Some of the BCTWGMIU Members questioned their leadership.
At a hearing Monday, Judge Drain said "serious questions" loomed over the decision by the company's second-largest union—the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union—to embark on the crippling strike that ultimately brought Hostess to its knees.
Interesting times we live in. I never bought any of their products.
"He went on two legs, wore clothes and was a human being, but nevertheless he was in reality a wolf of the Steppes. He had learned a good deal . . . and was a fairly clever fellow. What he had not learned, however, was this: to find contentment in himself and his own life. The cause of this apparently was that at the bottom of his heart he knew all the time (or thought he knew) that he was in reality not a man, but a wolf of the Steppes."
