    i stand corrected.

but that doesn't mean that Texas wouldn't be out of tens of thousands of jobs, if NASA and the military pulled out.

First official shots yes. I believe lots of skirmishes took place on the Kansas and Missouri borders, as well as the raid on Harpers Ferry that preceded the official onset of hostilities.

One of the problems with "fixing America" is one half thinks were on the right track and the other half thinks were not.

Heck...........Texas would just succeed the Feds and keep it all rollin' as part of Texas. Maybe some reparations, but who knows.........maybe the Feds would owe Texas, what with all of the unrecorded liabilities accruing to military and NASA employees via retirement benefits

one half thinks were on the right track and the other half thinks were not
Easy. We jettison the half that think we're on the right track.

The first shots of the Civil war were actually fired Jan 9th 1861 by cadets at the Citadel.

Easy. We jettison the half that think we're on the right track.
RE: Part in bold-- Don't think so. They all move to Arkansas or Tennessee. :)
If the Union is once severed, the line of separation will grow wider and wider, and the controversies which are now debated and settled in the halls of legislation will then be tried in fields of battle and determined by the sword.

It has always been this way, basically. Even the Founders had severe disagreements and what they came up with was by vote! There seems to be a persistent myth in our culture about some good old days when the USA was some united Shangri-La.

Whatever changes are needed will continue to be done as usual, by vote or - behind closed doors .

no, the colonies were not part of the United Kingdom. They were Provinces.

I don't know about that. Imagine if all the tax money that each resident and business sends to the Feds instead went to the state coffers, The state's checking account would look very nice indeed. I know I pay far more to the Feds than I do to the state. I'm sure the state would appreciate that amount.
There are a number of states whose residents pay in more in federal taxes than the state receives back in federal spending. Those stats would come out ahead.

Unfortunately, the half that thinks we are on the wrong track is paying for those that think we are on the right track.

It's not quite half. It's only 46%, actually, according to Mit Romney.
