yeah, but most potheads aren't exactly what we'd call violent. Those stealing for drug money are junkies on things like meth, coke, heroin etc.

By using the term "drugs" the message is useless. I know what a gun is but "drug" can mean 1000 different things. He mentions a joint at the end ... does marijuana kill 37,000 people a year? Sounds like Limbaugh or Beck to me.

Limbaugh & Beck make fun of potheads, but don't suggest they're a danger to society. I'm not advocating one side or the other, but have always observed a simple consistency. Give a dozen guys each a bag of ganja, then give another dozen guys each a quart of mescal. Then count how many of each group get in a fight and/or wreck their car.

As a wise friend once said, "If doctors & lawyers had been around when whiskey was invented. It would take a prescription to get any."

Easiest solution just might be to decriminalize all substances (for adults), and then punish only criminal ACTIONS, without ever allowing any lessening of punishment BECAUSE of the substance. Your choice, your action, your repercussions, NO EXCUSES. The more I look at it, the more it seems to me that the criminal activity BEHIND the commerce of a banned substance causes more societal harm than...the substance itself.

Not as quick and efficient as a blow test is for alky... But, most times, IINM, the blow test is followed by a blood draw to confirm results.

Hate to tell you but substance abusers are rarely purests, they mix stuff. Alcohol and weed. Barbiturates and alcohol. Heroin and cocaine, etc... Pot versus alcohol is pretty much a meaningless arguement imho.
