    Can you survive?

    A head shot?

We all know about the many vets who have, and of course Gabby Giffords... What about joe blow, without the great medical care available to our servicemen..?

Well, how about you just walk in to your local ER?

While there aren't a lot of details... it coulda been a .22... or a 10mm... we don't know... But we do know the victim walked in to the ER coherent and articulating. And that the wound was sufficient enough for him to be airlifted from one hospital to another.

Sounds like he was very lucky to still be walking and talking. It's probably possible to survive a head shot with good medical care, but your quality of life might not be so good. (understatement).
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Getting lifted to Pittsburgh will definitely increase his odds.

Last year we responded to a guy that got shot in the forehead (top of the nose area). It was either a 40 or a 9, cant remember. He was woozy but talking. He was out of the hospital within a couple of weeks. He's fine now.

We've all seen those xray images of the guys with rounds in their heads, crossbow bolts, arrows, rebar etc... I guess theres stuff up there that isnt too vital to life. If you get lucky you can survive it.

Head trama is a strange animal. Often what seems to be a minor injury is fatal, then what appears to be horrific recovers without incident. Luck, Karma, whatever works.

And, of course, everybody knows why I post this....

Sometimes (and I believe, much more frequently now a days) head shots ARE NOT FATAL. There is no one shot kill guaranteed with any ammo from any handgun on any bad guy...

And in fact, the LEO who was first on the scene at the Sikh Temple shooting in Wisconsin was shot what, 11 times?

You can survive a brutal handgun attack... But the badguy can also survive.

Seems like I read that somewhere around 40% of folks headshot with a handgun survive.
