I'm buying 9 acres to put in an orchard, hogs and chickens, I also have my gardens, bee hives, and an old fashioned Mennonite wife (who is not old). I think I'll be fine
My wife and I are looking to renounce our citizenship and relocate to Costa Rica. Seriously. She is a hospital CEO and there is a demand there due to medical tourism. Cost of living much cheaper.
If the world goes to heck-in-a-handbasket, I think gold and silver will be worthless. The new currency will be bullets, booze, and other survival items.

I dont think that we will go over the fiscal cliff or that Obamacare will hurt us , im not worried about those things. Thats not to say i dont have plans for other events that wouldn't help should an economic collapse occur.
Here's one of the things that I'm doing. Along with my parents that live on the other side of the fence from me, I've been trying to take care of some things that when I'm out of money, some of the higher dollar projects will be done so the finished projects can take care of ME. I'm trying to get the most out of the 17 acres of land that I have. It's not much but we're going to have a great garden this year to add to the multiple cherry, peach, apricot, walnuts, almonds, apple trees that are already about 6 years old and are producing well. It's a shared garden between my parents and I on my property. Still not 100% complete but this is the garden shed that I built in order to help us get the most out of the garden this year. It's going to store everything from fertilizer, tools, hoses, drip system parts to canning jars and seeds. Building it myself little by little on weekends saved me a lot of money opposed to buying a prefab kit. And of course I have to give Dad credit too. He pitched in with some money and labor as well. He's retiring at the end of this month and he loves working the garden. We are not the type to sit back and hope that a government agency or operation will miraculously take care of us during bad times. Just like with Sandy and to their credit though, they don't have the resources or a magic wand to wave to make it all better when the SHTF.
