Doomsday Preppers are 'Socially Selfish' ...according to Emergency Manager...Huh?

Last week on the website Emergency Management, there appeared a blog post written by an emergency manager named Valerie Lucus-McEwen in which she made a grave error in judgment. She called doomsday preppers “socially selfish.”

She based this startling conclusion on the National Geographic’s “The Doomsday Prepper” series and concluded that because the people featured in this show were spending their OWN time and their OWN money to stockpile their OWN resources in order to prepare their OWN families for whatever disastrous scenario they foresaw, they are selfish. Specifically, as another emergency manager phrased it, this is “a level of indulgence that is selfish and counter-productive to providing for the common good.”

My Comments: Common Good? That is why I pay 50% + of my income in all types of taxes and fees for. What I do with the rest is not for the, um, 'Common Good'. Sorry, you got your share you socialist idiots.

Little did Ms. Lucus-McEwen realize she was opening an enormous can of worms. The blog post got blitzed with comments, universally condemning her for her conclusions and asking why it was the job of ordinary preppers to “provide for the common good” at their own expense.

It seems shes under the assumption that the people on the show are anti-community assistance in the event of an emergency. Pretty much she has no idea what is going on.

LOL, I think he's a bit high, but by the time you figure all taxes taken out of your paycheck, property taxes, sales taxes, taxes on each gallon of gasoline, taxes on your phone bill, taxes on... You get the idea... it does add up to a very hefty chunk of your income.

Thanks for posting the link to the Blog. I should have done that.

As for Taxes, I'm including all witholdings, property taxes, taxes hidden as fees (these nickle and dime you to death) and sales taxes. That is after what I can legally protect as pre-taxed income and with the Fiscal Cliff...... I expect to pay more.

I can't hide behind the additional and substantual tax writeoffs that a small business can use, which I believe is exactly why the current govt is going after small business, to strip them of any way to stay solvent using legal tax deductions.

It depends on where one lives............. and sucks.

Correction Edit - the above poster is correct - not just Income Tax. I should have stated what my Tax/Fee Burden is.

The taxes add up to enough to make you ill. :puke:

Socially selfish? Not me!
I am quite well supplied and stocked up, and if the great unwashed, unprepared masses decide that I need to supply them,
by force, I will gladly share my supplies starting with ammunition.

I never understood people who confuse being self sufficient with being selfish.

Ms Lucus-McEwen has no conept of the meaning of "Doomsday." Simple as that.

Her attitude goes hand-in-hand with why we had the winner we did of this last election.

The "haves" are supposed to support the "have not's" don't you know?

I have the most trouble with people who think you just owe them everything, we really must do something to stop this cycle of handouts.

The problem with that is eventually the "Haves" run out of money too.
