It Happend : Burgulay At Jo Jo's House.
I put this in "Off Topic" because it isn't in the news yet.
We came back from a Christmas Play we put on with our kids, with a load of sound equipment and stuff, my wife was in the garage and I headed to open the door and let our dog out. As I put the key to the lock on the back door, it swung open and I saw our old doggy wandering in the kitchen. I saw pieces of wood on the floor and knew immediately we had been broken into.
Like an idot I picked up the pieces off the floor and then rushed upstairs to find my dresser drawers ransacked, my Mosin-Nagant rifle on the bed. I noticed the .380 on the dresser was gone, my 9mm in my avatar, gone along with a .38spl and a cheap .25 auto. Two rifles gone, my Sears .22, first firearm I got as a kid in 1965 and an old Spanish sport Mauser in 7mm. Also three 9mm magazines stolen, but they did not take speed loaders or any other ammo. Then I ran downstairs to tell Mrs. Jo Jo we had been robbed.
They went into an adjacent room, opened up my desk drawers, nothing in them and then they left out the front door. Mrs. Jo Jo noticed it was pulled to, but unlocked.
We keep our gates locked, have a high chainlink fence, old kind with the spikes on top, so they had to jump over the gate and pry open the back door. We had to call 911 twice, guess things are busy and finally the officers came, and were extremely nice. The lead officer was a gun guy and we chatted about them. They dusted for prints, took photos but it's not looking good they will find anything useful with that.
I gave him a list of what was taken along with serial numbers so in case by some miracle one ever shows up, I can know it's mine, but I'm not betting the ranch on that happening. He says that is the best thing I can do, this information goes into a data base if someone is caught with a handgun and the serial numbers run, it can show up as stolen.
I feel the violation that others have felt, only this time, it's me. The thing is, I have told very, very few people that I even have firearms and never tell them I have any in the house. It seems like we were just targeted at random for a smash and grab.
I really am angry at myself for not taking more precautions and yes, I know better, but just did not do it. Knowing it's too late, we are now considering cameras and DVR recorder for some better security. I know it's some drug thug needing cash and guns are an easy thing to trade for drugs. Most likely the handguns will end up in Detroit, that's what our Police say.
Hope that something really really bad happens to whoever violated my home and stole from me.
