Horribly stupid way to go about it, but I'm glad it turned out well and no one was hurt. (Well, it would have been nice if the thief got hurt maybe)
Been calling it like I see it since 1988 and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Call 911 and be a good witness. If you're not an LEO don't try to be one!

I can't get anyone to steal my truck, I leave the keys in it, it has close to 300k miles and looks bad but has good insurance coverage. It looks so bad I even get flyers stuck under the wipers "We Buy Junk Vehicles" or "Will dispose of at no charge"

Did he think they would pull over and apologise? Perhaps engage in a battle of wits? They had no idea who he was until he got stupid. I would have dropped way back and followed them.
I don't always have nothing to say, but when I do, I post it on Facebook.

With my luck, I would be mistakenly chasing a vehicle that looked exactly like the one I had stolen.

Why would you chase a vehicle that looks like the one you stole? Oh, wait, I see.... nevermind.

I agree follow from a distance and call LEOs.

Probably would have been more clear if it read "the one that had been stolen from me" or something like that.

That's stupidity on two fronts. The owner just needed to sit back and call in the calvery from a distance. The thief and his two bosom buddies, felons driving around the town they (I'm assuming) stole the truck in AND then popping off rounds at the mad owner AND running from the cops, who already knew they were armed and dangerous.
