Just put one down... And if that was Rudy's last will and testament, we have done our part... our two remaining dogs are rescues, as Rudy was...

I passed this one on... thanks for the post.

I am reminded of how very much I like what Will Rogers said...

"If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went."

(RIP Rudy, good job pup, well done! )

I love my mutt. Every time they pass, I swear this one is the last, and every time I pick up another. The blessings far outweigh the pain.

We just took our beloved blue tick hound, Sheba, to the vet today. We thought she had tangled with a wild life creature. The vet said she may have a terminal disease (kind of like Loopus in humans) and started her on a drug therapy to rule out other problems. I know by the way he was talking it is not good for our dear girl.

Then I saw this and tears are starting. She was a rescue dog and has been the best dog we could have asked for. I hope that the vet's dx is not what it is, but we will do our best to make her comfortable. We have lost other sweet dogs and the pain is always bad, but I agree with Will Rogers. "If there are no dogs in heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went."

We will still have our basset hound and pom. Pom is a rescue dog. If Sheba is dieing, it will be hard on us humans, but really hard on the basset hound as Sheba was her "Mommy" since we got her as a little puppy. Sheba still licks the rain off the basset and they sleep snuggled. There is no love like the love of a shelter/rescue dog.

An ugly, abandoned stray puppy stumbled onto our property nearly starved, mangey & barely alive. Our German Shepherd male & Pitbull female found him way-back on the farm and carried him by the nap of his neck all the way to the house. Once Mrs. Ghost Tracker saw what the big dogs had done for the little worthless crapper, she insisted (INSISTED) I take him to the vet for a complete physical, shots & high-performance puppy grub. That was years ago. His name is "Festus" and he looks like a Teacup Irish Wolfhound. He's high-speed, low-drag & smarter than anyone or anything (except Mrs. GT) who lives here. Sometimes I think he saved all of us, rather than the other way around!

Sorry to hear about Sheba. Here's hoping and praying for the best for, her.

I have an almost four year old Golden Retriever that stays closer to me than my shadow. My oldest son lives at home and just got a two month old Border Collie from the shelter. It's been fun these last three days watching the dogs adapt to each other.

The only thing more heart-warming that "Good Dog" stories are...more "Good Dog" stories. They're like the grandchildren...of pets!
