Hey, I don't think it's a bad thing to be on high alert at all these day's. The thing that is strange is that the teacher say's he confinscated it from a student. In my day's in school that was enough said and the teachers were taken at there word.

Train and train hard, you might not get a second chance to make a first impression!
I vote for Monica Lewinsky's Ex-Boyfriend's Wife for President.....Not!
I think this is the kind of things that come from zero tolerance policies. Administrators no longer have to think or rationalize their actions. They should consider each case individually.

"But the toy was an air soft gun, meaning it shoots little plastic pellets. So, it was not exactly harmless.
"It could still shoot a projectile, it still could be considered dangerous," said Donovan. "
Are you freakin' kidding me??I guess you better get rid of those sharp pencils and pens--someone might lose an eye...

Local radio news is saying that the teacher took the gun out of a box of stuff used in a play, not from a student.
He intended to take it off school grounds.
Typical, liberal cowards, overreacting

I kind of agree with you.
Airsoft guns have no place in school. I've been shot with one playing at the local paintball place. I had a huge fat lip. They can easily cause major damage to an eye. At least pencils have a legitimate use in school.
The student should be suspended and the teacher should have had enough common sense not to tuck it in the back of his pants. If the teacher is that dumb I don't know if they should be teaching kids anything.

Administrations and meetings are the worst thing to happen to business as unusual. This seems to be a total attact of the dumbs perpetrated upon the public interest.
One should never confuse good fortune with good training.

It does kind of leave you wondering. While stuffing it in his pants probably wasn't the best idea, he DID have to get the thing "someplace, somehow".
Maybe he should have just moved through the halls with the gun held high overhead, screaming "toy gun coming through"!(That was sarcasm!)

EOD - Initial success or total failure
Exactly. We can't have plastic knives to use at lunch time, but students can have very sharp and rigid pencils, pens and drum sticks. Now of course they need to use those in the course of a normal school day, but those are certainly just as, if not more dangerous than a flimsy plastic knife.
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."
