"A first rate man with a third rate gun is far better than the other way around". The gun is a tool, you are the craftsman that makes it work. There are those who say "if I had to do it, I could" yet they never go out and train to do it. (WETSU)
The Mayan calendar didn't use leap years. So, the Mayan Apocalypse actually occurred several months ago. We must all be on a spaceship...plugged into the Matrix.

Crossman 760 BB/Pellet, Daisy Red Ryder, Crossman Wrist Rocket, 14 Steak Knives, 3 Fillet Knives, Rolling Pin-14", Various Hunting Knives, 2 Baseball Bats, 3 Big Dogs and a big American Flag flying in the yard. I have no firearms; Try the next house.
Does this mean I still have to go to work tomorrow?
The Mayans used the sun to determine their calendar. Winter Solstice means Winter Solstice, regardless of leap year. (I learned this from my hippie, dippy "New Age" Facebook friends). Anyway, I don't freak out on December 31st, when my wall calendar reaches the end. Just put up the new one
. The Mayans probably figured they had 5,000+ years to carve the next calendar. But with those pesky Spaniards and their European diseases slaughtering most of them, I can understand how deciding who "Miss Mayan October" would seem a little less important than surviving extermination.

But is it the 21st in Greenwich? That's when it will happen.
"Books are useless! I only ever read one book, 'To Kill a Mockingbird,' and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the color of his skin... but what good does that do me?" Homer Simpson
I'm more worried about those who worry that it's the end of the world. For that I'm a little irritated I got called to travel to CO yesterday... Oh well I went over the firearms with the wife one more time before I left.
I was sure the world was over this morning. It was so bad my heart beat faster and I got that old tunnel vision. I thought about just curling up and saying goodbye to all of my loved ones. I inventoried my life and decided I was ready to meet my Maker. It wasn't a bad life at all....
Then I realized I just forgot to turn on the timer on the coffee maker. I flipped the switch and I'm good now.

The answer to the Mayan calendar ending at 12/21/12 is quite simple really, the calender maker was speared to death by a Conquistador before he could finish.

The world is an illusion, a dream of some infant God. Once it matures things will improve.

The problem with the world is grown-ups behaving like unsupervised children.
There is a solution but we are not Jedi... not yet.

Whatever is happening, I can say with certainty that world has gone to the crapper a long time ago.
For it to end would almost be a humane coup de grace.
Ignorance is a long way from stupid, but left unchecked, can get there real fast.
