We should not forget that the spark which ignited the American Revolution was caused by the British attempt to confiscate the firearms of the colonists. -

Please research before spreading rumors, especially 6 year old false rumors.

Earlier I posted regarding what I believed to be a true statement from my wife that her friend had been given a new dollar coin with "in God we trust" omitted. I did not research the matter. Judging by the nasty gram I got shortly there after I am issuing this apology. If only we all could be perfect.

Have seen this before and it is just someone fear mongering.
The Dollar Coin does indeed have the motto "In God We Trust" only it is placed on the rim of the coin.
Yet, since it was placed out of sight that could fuel further speculation the motto would just be eliminated.
The 1st coin to have the motto was the 2 cent piece in the year 1864. It was added to that coin during the American Civil War and was continued afterwards on other coins.

false rumor or not, i've always questioned the appropriateness of it
who the heck is "we" anyhow?
"I plan ahead. That way, I don't have to do anything right now!"
An easily made mistake since the designers of the Dollar Coin chose to put it on the rim of the coin and out of sight.
Unless you know about coins, then it would appear the motto had been dropped.

What I've noticed is that the more outrageous the claim being circulated on the net, especially among the conservatives, the more likely the claim is to be hyped and spread without being verified. At least twice a year I get the same old hackneyed "Hanoi Jane" story about Jane Fonda visiting POWs in North Viet Nam, how she turned over a note to the bad guys, etc. About 2% of what's in that story is actually true.
My standing rule is that the more incensed you are about the news item you just got via email, the more you need to put on the brakes and check it out before circulating it further.

On the latest dollar coins the motto “ In God We Trust” and “ E Pluribus Unum” are on the edge of the coin, there have been numerous examples of error coins the did not get the edge lettering when the missed that step in minting.
