Was Only A Matter Of Time

This is posted on Hoffman's facebook page:

    "Effective Immediately:
Hoffman’s Gun Center will require a Ct. State Pistol permit to purchase “Assault Style” center fire rifles. Active Military, Ct Hunting License & law Enforcement will also be accepted.

    It’s a reasonable act
    In a unreasonable time

    At the very least,
People we sell this type of firearm to
    have had some basic training.

    It’s all about Safety."

Hopefully this isn't just the tip of the iceberg.

Actually they are probably the best gun store in the state. I see this as a way to possibly deflect future lawsuits. Sad that we have come to that.

    Somehow I think that
    1. Behind the scenes, they are being strong armed by local/state/federal politicians who "only have the best interests of the people".
    2. They are in CYA mode in case one of their guns show up in a crime. This way they can say they did their due diligence.

    .

    I seriously doubt it.

I'd bet that they are tired of waiting and waiting and waiting on the "instant check system" know as NICS and are requiring the permit which doesn't require it.

I've seen many examples of it in the last few weeks. One guy waits several hours for the NICS so that he can walk off with his gun, another guy slaps down the money and walks out because with the concealed handgun license they are exempt from NICS.

They are doing it because its easier, its quicker and its guaranteed.

Question, is it because if a customer has the pistol permit they can bypass the NICS check? In Montana with my CCW the check is bypassed because it proves that I am already qualified. This may reduce the backlog, speed processing and help maintain a small semblance of inventory. Sometimes people may jump to a conclusion when the business decision done to streamline the process.
