Tradegy in the making.....
My wife's friend wants to get a gun for the home. Now here is the problem. She has an eight year old son whom I believe, and others too, to have a case of autism. Her son is very violent and has been expelled by daycare professionals because of his abusive nature. He has punched, kicked and bitten teachers and other children and tried to push one of his cousins down the stairs. He does not interact with other children well and tends to play by himself. She has been told many times by professionals that her son needs to be tested but she always says he is just misunderstood or bored. I am not a doctor by any means or able to diagnose serious conditions but other people have made the same observations that something is not right.
I hope I am wrong but I feel that this will make the news someday.

Sounds like you are right to have concern. Maybe you and your wife should research pediatric cases of patricide and provide a copy of your summary to the friend - hopefully with a resource phone number. She, in her denial, is the one most ask risk.

Is she is a responsible gun owner then it should not be a problem.

As long as the gun is stored in a gun safe wherethe child does not have access.

Unfortunately DaRedneck, I don't consider her responsible. I've seen too much. Let's put it this way. Even if she didn't have her son she would not watch my daughter.

My best advice would be to not visit that home.

Sometimes we don't need to be doctors to see the obvious. You should be concerned. I'll bet you can write the script to how this play is gonna end. Hopefully something changes or I'm afraid you are right, it will be bad.

Then that could certainly be a problem. I'd have a talk with her about gun safety, locks and safes or at least point her in that direction.

but she always says he is just misunderstood or bored.
Lack of parenting has far-reaching implications for families. She's going to find it out, one way or another. Sweeping it under the rug is just going to cause someone to "trip" on the pile-up at some point.
And, if truly violent at 8yrs of age, it could be a whole different can of worms by age 16. Perhaps she'll see it then. Then again, perhaps not. Up to her, mostly, until it gets bad enough it becomes other peoples' problems to help address.

A mom in denial is a dangerous thing. Her son needs help, and I don't know if she is going to learn that until after he pushes her down the stairs or stabs her with a kitchen knife (if he hasn't already, which in that case, she's hopeless).

We'd be up in arms if the OP was a physician stating that he was worried about a gun being in the home and followed the items in Obama's plan to keep guns out of the hands of people with mental issues. A physician that has taken courses in psychiatric care, rotated through various mental health situations as a student and resident, and has a decent grasp of what is going on. However a post from someone far less qualified (I assume) and we're all saying that there will be a tragic end to this.
Seems as if we want things to work both ways at our convenience.

Not me. I am all for her excercising her 2A rights I just think a friend would sit her down and discuss gun safety, gun locks and gun safes so that her son doesn't get his hands on her gun.

A good safe is how a responsible gun owner could solve that problem.
