I see your premise here but I believe it is flawed. To the antis in general a firearm is a firearm and all are to be hated and confiscated so the world can be the utopia they think is possible. Where everyone is friendly, 911 is a magic number that makes swat teams appear from thin air when there is trouble. They use the AR as an example because the government does and that is what they see.
If we all carried a one shot 22 painted pink with flowers on it it would be no different. That gun can kill they would shriek and should be taken and melted down. Otherwise our world wide flower garden where everything is perfect cannot grow.
The antis cannot be convinced. Not even that the constitution says what it says. To attempt to do so is a total waste of time and effort.
The only answer to this is a united front present to the government that yes the 2nd amendment exists like or not. That making it mean whatever they want to to suit their purpose changes nothing and will not be accepted by large number of American Citizens. And a clear message that yes there is actually a point they can push to that will result in a hell they do not want to unleash in this country win or loose.
The government antis know they are wrong. They know they are subverting the constitution. Pointing that out to them over and over is only telling them what they already know and dont care about.
Dressing up a firearm in pink fuzzy fake fur and putting a furbie on the muzzle changes nothing to them.
Only two options that count remain or actually ever existed. One is to make sure the anti politicans know they loose office for supporting such laws.
Failing that presenting a unified front where all of us make plain that if the ballot box fails to protect our rights and liberties then only one option is left to the American people. The same option that gave this country birth.
Fear of the governed is all that keeps governments honest. Worl
dwide. All through history.
If we have lost that resolve when pushed to the absolute brink then we neither will have or deserve freedom.
Now one can twist that anyway they want. But it will always come back to that same answer in the end.
I agree with you Ghost1958, but the people the anti-gunners are sweeping up into their camp, are not anti-gunners..yet. They are the ones I picture in my mind when I think of what a turn off the tacti-cool look is to them. The constant attack by anti-gun people is gaining strength based upon their numbers. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the press is in their back pocket, and self seeking politicians. I may be wrong, or you may be wrong, but I believe we are both right. To the hard core anti 2nd amendment people, I have nothing but disdain, and don't care if they are upset about any pro-gun activity or not.
It doesn't matter if the ads are for "military looking" guns. Military issue is exactly what should be available for purchase by civilians. The second amendment isn't about hunting or sports - it's about having what you need on hand in the event you need to become a member of a militia. Whatever military and/or police have, is exactly what Joe Schmoe should have.
I don't think it has anything to do with looks.
Right now it is about dead school children & they are playing up scary looking things for the sheeple. They want all guns, but getting 1/2 of them of the market in the near term is the goal.
I have a friend that wanted a gun last year. When Newtown happened they are appalled at the killer guns out there & things they should be banned. They & others are being brainwashed that all guns are bad & we must get rid of the scary ones now (the others will be banned later). The brainwashing campaign that Holder opined about is happening now.
The key, a socialist administration that is willing to divert & spend a lot of money to pay for the brainwashing.
Let me preface here by saying I dont have a AR or the like. Not that I dont like em just they are expensive and I dont really NEED one. The only camo I own is what I deer hunt in and thats the only time I wear it. So other than the guys that like them have a unalienable right to them that I think should be defended to the bitter end I have no personal dog in the fight.

And a lost cause.
There are a lot of people considered fence sitters because they dont personally own a gun and thats fine its their choice. But they also dont think nobody else should. Those fence sitters are not the problem. When the chips fly they normally land on our side at the ballot box. The others will fall in the sheep pen no matter what we do or say.
Just a example that I will make a short as I can. People perceive what they want to perceive regardless. I am president of a biker based childrens charity aiding sick children. Founded memory of our late son. We arent huge but locally well known for the most part and extremely active supporting an average locally of about 20 kids a year. Membership is about 20 also.
We have a backpatch. Not a three piece 1%center patch, "think Hells Angels" since that is one of the most famous ones you may have heard of. Ours is one round patch, no rockers, states clearly on it what we are. But in traveling around there is one constant. Im on a motorcycle. No matter I sold my Harley five years ago and ride an old 85 Goldwing pappaw bike, nothing a 1% outlaw biker would be caught dead on. I have long hair and beard. I wear leather when its cool.
Now even though we are known well locally, the patch screams out what we are, a kids charity, invariably people will part like the red sea when I go into a store unless they personally know me. Let all 20 of us ride up? Forget it. Soccer moms are out the door.
Why? Even though ive changed the bike I ride, have a 9 inch circular patch on my back that says what I am and what I do which is help sick kids and only help sick kids Im seen as the "big bad biker get out of his way". At least at first blush.
So you see no matter how you package things bikers guns etc people will see them as they want to see them.
On the first part of my last post Ill agree I could be wrong. I dont think so based on expierience but ill go along with that.
On the last part, gotta stand my ground that in the end those are the only options that make any difference.
We have active wars in 2 countries. Lots of returning vets. They are familiar with the M4, AR, etc platform. You can bet those companies are trying to appeal to those folks. It happened after WWII as well. Vets come back and they purchase guns they are familiar with. Just another thought.
We may be giving them a little ammo here. But they were looking for something. And I'm not interested in worrying about them looking all the time. And basing my actions on that.
That might be the only thing we in the great republic of Obama will be able to have to defend ourselves with. SD rounds will be harsh language.
Or perhaps we don't need weapons. If we all just gave each other a hug and could be more understanding to those who wanna slit our throat, we would be better off
Let the criminals have their guns, we will have our hope and change to fight them with. It's okay, Obama will save us. He killed bin laden with his bare hands after all
Here we go, members of this forum are taking exception to the manufacturing companies that manufacture products that are in demand by the consumers and it just happens there is presently a high demand for military style weapons that was also driven by no one other than our president. These companies also run as many ads in as many forums as they can afford in an attempt to attract the consumers to their products. Why do they do it, not to p-off the anti gunners but attract buyers for their products, and guess what they every right to do so, regardless if there are folks that like it or not. Easy remedy, don't buy the magazine or just don't read the ads or articles.
What is so wrong with a weapon that only looks like a military rifle. I have a .22 that looks like a AR15 does that make it an assault rifle, but i do have a Winchester Model 70 .300WSM and Remington 700 .308 that have a greater range and are far more deadly than the .223/5.56 round. The weapons ban of 1934 banned all true automatic civilian and military weapons.
The move by our government to ban certain weapons is but the first step in their effort to ban all weapons. The bills being presented to the congress now go far beyond a ban on just the so called assault rifles. Obama has another ace up his sleeve to get our weapons, it is called the International Weapons Treaty.
We are our worst enemy based on many comments made on various gun forums IMO.
Blaming the visual appearance of an advertisments used to sell legitimate products for causing a person to attempt to deprive a citizen of their constitutionally guaranteed rights seems a bit like blaming the way a women is dressed for raping her. It's early and perhaps I should finish my first cup of coffee before running my mouth but people need to be held accountable for their own actions. Timid people want to be protected. Liberals hate conservatives for what they believe, not how they say those beliefs. Looking for the reason why some people are scared of their own shadows or why they want to confiscate more than 50% of my earnings to spend on, what I consider to be, morally reprehensible causes is not time well spent. I don't care why the rattlesnake tried to bite me or why the gang banger thought it was a good idea to try and take what is mine. They did it, they own it. Geez why am I so grumpy this morning...
Oh my goodness. Don't let my grand daughter see this...it will go on her "wish list".

What if someone told you that your Avatar is a picture of war and it upsets them and that you should remove it, would you? or would you tell them to go pound sand.
I have made this comment many times, We are our worst enemy, and based on comments on this forum and others we are.........
With or without our "help" the idea of taking away all the guns from it's citizens has been around for a long time. They don't need any excuses to do it . We could all become deaf mutes as well as blind and never say or print another word that is firearms related and it wouldn't make a bit of difference. Our government is full of a political elite ruling class intent on shoving their agenda down our throats no matter what. I for one will not accept the blame for their evil agenda. It is not our fault. King George tried to disarm the colonialist and sparked a revolution, again the goverment stated a war in 1861 trying to cram their agenda down our throats, and if they keep it up, I fear it will happen again like it or not.
I don't think that one could argue by any means adverts and the like are responsible for the anti 2Aers stance, but I do agree that the large amount of adverts that exist to cater to the sporting/tactical/gunenthusiast community are indeed great ammunition for them.
Your average sheep-variant antigunner may never have looked at an ad like that in their life, but once they start looking for examples of how "dangerous" all these "Military" weapons are...they can quickly find an abundance of them. Things like this are never an issue until you want to start using them out of context.
"Tactical foregrip!" "Tactical light with face-smashing points!" "100 round magazines! For when 30 doesn't cut it!" "Train like a SEAL, join <insert carbine training course here> today!" "Kill your enemies before they kill you!"
I'm being a bit hyperbolic and facetious, but to the uninformed but anti-gun leaning individual, I imagine that's how a lot of adverts come off. Then they wander to YouTube and see guys like FPSRussia almost killing himself* and the vast array of hardware he has and it's no wonder they think there's no restraint or control. Remember, we look at these things with a different view than your average, scared individual.
*For the record I love FPSRussia's channel.
