    How Much MPG

"but it depends on where I buy gas. Murphy Oil (Walmart) won't get me half as far as gas from Kroger" --- interesting thought. I have wondered for a good while if some of the cut rate stations might sell gasoline that performs less than expected. We don't travel far but do buy a fair amount of gasoline but always from the same local station and performance seems to be constant. Dakota 318 - mileage not so good -- 15. Uplander, mileage better than expected -- 20 and this is the short drive school and back-- and LaCrosse driven 100 miles daily round trip - very good -- just reset the counter last night and was 26.6 for 4,600 miles.

The gas could be cheaper at a cut-rate station if the fuel would cost them less (per unit volume). That would then explain the poorer mpg readings some people get - lower quality inputs

But that raises a question for me: how would a station get cheaper wholesale fuel?

I can get up to 18. I run only non-ethanol gas and that helps.

On cross country motorcycle trips i used to notice about a 10-20 % decrease in mileage passing through Utah with its high ethanol gas. On a 76 Goldwing with a 120 mile range that is cause for concern. Now many states are doing the same with E-10. Here in California the cheapest stations like Arco, Valero, and many independents run the maximum ethanol level allowed by law, so a high-performance engine like my bikes and most sports cars cost more per mile to operate with the cheaper gas. Non-ethanol gas is rare and expensive here.

Re: How Much MPG Do You Get?

So which will save you more money... Upgrading from a truck that gets 10 mpg to one that gets 20, or upgrading from a car that gets 25 to one that gets 50?
