Looking for input on home automation/surveillance

So I have a pretty decent home network setup including a couple of time capsules, an airport extreme, a couple Sonos components, and a few other things. So I am looking to set up a RAID array in the basement to use as a media server and additional backup capability. So since I am looking to make changes, I figured I would add some IP cameras for surveillance use. The RAID would provide video capture/recording for the cameras as well. Ideally I would like the system to be able to send images to any TV in the house, or any of the family's iPhones.

So I am looking for some input on what it would take to make this happen, and component recommendations.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I used Security Spy at my office on a Mac server for IP cameras. Here is a link to the installation manual and you can also read other info once you're there.

OK, way over my head. I have a dog. Does that help?

Put Claymore Mines around your house with trip wires. That will stop them.

I have a GSD for the 4-legged alarm system, but I am looking for another barrier.

Paint a huge NRA logo on your garage door? While a camera system is a fine warning device, I fail to understand how it can serve as a "barrier".

    Ghost Tracker,

To me a surveillance system is a defensive barrier for the occupants. Someone knocks on the door and instantly a camera feed pops up on the TV or iPhone or whatever. Gives you a heads up before even heading to the door.
