Talking Tanks and Guns and Oh My!

"You get a tank, you end up with an ex-wife," warns Mr. Miller, who has one of each.

PORT LAVACA, TexasWeapons buffs may stock semiautomatics in the gun safe. But nothing makes a statement like having an Army tank in the garage.

Scattered around the country are members of a small fraternity of guys who own tanks. They are hyper-avid history buffs or hyper-edgy investors or just wealthy men who can now afford hyper-sized versions of the toys they played with when they were boys. Tank brokers—yes, there is such a thing—estimate there are several hundred to 1,000 private tank owners in the U.S.

There was a miltary-decorun restaurant near here that had a Stuart tank out front. When I heard it was closing I seriously considered trying to buy it. Alas it was gone when I went by. It would have made a terrific hurricane shelter if nothing else and kept the neighbors at bay.

I don't know. Some of those checkouts are pretty narrow.

Never would be able to afford one but it would be great fun to take a test drive.

Are these legal in NY as long as you have 7 rounds or less on board?
