NYCís Mayor Nannyburg has a new crusade, loud earphones.

Next NYC health campaign: too-loud earphones

NEW YORK (AP) ó The city wants young New Yorkers to hear its latest public-health warning loud and clear: Cranked-up headphones can be hazardous to your hearing.

So much so that the city is planning a $250,000 social media and marketing campaign to warn teens that they risk hearing loss from listening to personal music players at high volume, health officials said Wednesday.

It's the latest in a slate of efforts on Mayor Michael Bloomberg's watch to urge New Yorkers to eschew unhealthy habits, from smoking to drinking large amounts of sugary soda. The prodding has sometimes included graphic ads, such as an online video of a man pouring himself a soda that turns into a glass of glop made to look like fat and an ad featuring a close-up of a smoker's gangrenous toes.

That will be the next detail for the NYPD, stop anyone with an MP3 player and measure the sound output of their headphones.

Does any actual work get done by Bloomberg?
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Reminds me of some Europeans I met this summer. They said their country had a lot of laws, lots more than Americans, but its ok because they're just designed to keep hem safe. I'd much rather be free and decide what's safe for myself. I can't remember where I read it, but didn't Bloomberg make it illegal for pizza places to deliver soft drinks in bottles larger than 20 ounces recently?

I did that. One of the contractors I hired sent a guy who always had earbuds in his ears. I could never communicate with him. I hired another contractor and told the old one why I switched.

Just the first step before the warden puts the crackdown on their use. Next there will be a law against using um for your own protection. Just like the 32oz soft drink.. You don't need that much sugar therefor it's against the law to sell it. Now, sleep, sleep. You're feeling very sleepy... 😔

He wants to make certain people hear what he tells them not to do...
