OFF TOPIC Sequestration and Government waste

For those of you who don't know this, I am a Federal government employee. We are denigrated by those who aren't, but I am proud of what I do. I work for the Department of Justice and am a computer technician who works on, among other things, computers that have been seized due to suspicion of child porn. I would like to think I play a SMALL part in helping to put child predators away.

That said, I am going to be furloughed. I will have 14 unpaid days between now and the end of the fiscal year, Sept 30. That amounts to about a 15 percent cut in pay. We are told that it is because of sequestration.

Then I ran across this article a few minutes ago. Biden's One-Night Paris Hotel Tab: $585,000.50 | The Weekly Standard

We can hardly order necessary office supplies, ALL of our travel and training budget has been cut to zero, we are in the third year of a one year pay freeze and yet Uncle Joe can go to London and Paris.

OP, you are not part of the "elite" class. They are closing the local airport control tower here but continue to pump money into third-world coutries with no expectation of any return for the effort other than more attacks on Americans. "We" no longer matter to this administration.

What the administration is doing to the citizens of this country is disgusting and immoral. Workers, like you lionaround, who work hard, do a good job and are an asset to society are being harmed so that the administration can continue to spend, spend, spend and waste, waste, waste. "Make it as visible and painful as possible" Think how much better half a million dollars could have been used. Maybe you and your coworkers wouldn't have to have your hours cut.
But no, Joe has to have his lavish night out.

We're being driven into the ground on purpose and it's so frustrating. I hope we can turn it around soon.

As a Government employee I see lots of waste in the workforce and there needs to be cuts.

We have a "supervisor" who is so bad he cannot get qualified to do his own job. He has been with us for nearly two years now at a salary of around $100K. He needs cut.

I was going to list other examples but decided against it because I might actually violate workplace rules. But suffice it to say that there ARE lots of things we can cut without jeopardizing our work "product". There can and should be cuts. We should go to the workforce and get ideas from the people in the trenches as to what we can get rid of.

    Sequestration is not the answer.

patriot and who isn't. Its function is to obey orders, not originate them.

I kind of work for a Government and yes see waste on occasions. Yet, I do my best not to waste or abuse the funding we get to do our jobs. The downside of government is that it is wasteful because they are not held accountable for the waste.

Holding any and all Government officials financially accountable will make the waste go to minimums. If all our lawmakers had to pay back the monies wasted on stupidity we could balance the budget and have a surplus to boot.

Accountability is the key. Of course cutting out the massive non essential crap is a good start.

The continuing resolution that congress has passed caused my agency to hold off on our official furlough letters for another two weeks. We were supposed to get them yesterday. We are scheduled to get a 20% pay cut by the end of the FY through our furloughs. To me all they are doing is just putting a temporary bandaid on a bleeding wound without doing anything to stop the bleeding. What really scares me is if the possibilities of furloughs becomes the new normal every year.

lionround, clearly the administration is cutting the most essential portions of our national security in order to bring out public alarm to the sequestration.

Ironically, this morning, we got a call from my brother in law who is taking an early retirement, in expectation of pending furloughs. His occupation is classified, but essential.

I'm sick of this treasonous administration. I'm sick over what is happening to you.

The president has failed to submit a budget to congress as required by law. Why is that not being pursued.
