Almost had to draw my weapons this afternoon!

I almost had to use my firearm this afternoon to dispatch this guy! I was going through a box of stuff in my garage and nearly grabbed him before I saw him. I haven't back peddled that fast in years!

He was about as big across as the palm of my hand! I didn't think a rolled up newspaper would do it.

I tried to smash him but he was as fast as he was large. My wife hit him with some wasp spray but he escaped to either die or plot his revenge. I've never been face to face with a spider that large and I hope to never be again...but I have a bad feeling that it's not the last I've seen of the mighty Huntsman Spider!

The Internets told me that they aren't deadly but that thing nearly scared me to death!

You make a good case for keeping the shotgun handy.

No expert on arachnids here, but from I what I found it looks like a Wolf Spider. Not poisonous but I think this thing would scare me more than a Black Widow would. Thankfully, up here in the land of cheese I don't have to worry about either.

I would have freaked the heck out! I don't mind spiders, but one that size... that close... NU UH! I would have let him have the run of the garage and never entered it again! LOL

Do you realize how many "bad" insects that guy would eat? She would also eat most of the spiders that can actually hurt you.

Don't forget cats and small children too!

Next time that happens follow these instructions:

    1. Keep quiet and back off
    2. Go into the house
    3. Say: "Honey, could you go out there and help tidy up in the garage while I'll fix us some lunch?
    4. Start fixing lunch and hope she takes care of business

Well, I might jump a mile, but when I got my witts back I'd let it go outside. Spiders (except Black Widows) rank up there with King snakes in my book. Heck I even like possums too - clean up crew!

Ya'll have some mighty big bugs in the deep wet South. If it's all the same; please keep them there. We have our own critters to worry about in the Southwest. :D

Yup, looks like a wolf spider to me, and a bigun too. Nothing a shoe couldn't handle though.
