A double today on the farm.

I was recovering from a hard bicycle ride today and as I sat and looked out the window I saw a groundhog out back in my field. I got up and went to the garage to get my .223 and when I was about to crack open the door I saw another groundhog in the front yard.

This became an interesting mental problem because (I thought) if I went out the front to shoot the one in the back of the house I'll spook the one in the front and vice versa. So figuring I can always shoot the one out back in the field another day I chose the back door and the front woodchuck.

#1 wasn't too tough it was only about 75 yards and I rung him up without a fuss. On a whim I decided to check on the other one and for some reason he didn't spook at the shot. I snuck over and got a good rest on my fence and rung him up too.

That's woodchuck #4 and #5 for the year.

Total score for my Savage .223 this year

    5 chucks, 1 raccoon and 1 miss .

    I feel a Christmas song...

Fiiiiive woodchucks... four racoons, three blind mice, two chipmunks, and a miss from the Savage .223.

You said a double on the farm, I thought you had even more boys peeing...

Cooking instructions. Slow and low. Meat is a bit greasy, after cooking rest the meat and skim the fat. Makes great taco meat....

I've got to try this now! I love tacos, have them once a week.

If you want more cooking instructions let me know. The fat in the meat is where the gamey taste comes from, once that is gone, its almost like roast beast....

Five this year? Man, on a WA rock chuck hunt that would be about 30 minutes or less. Gotta love a .223 for chucks!

What my .223 left of rock chuck (pretty much the same animal) was gutted, deboned, practically de-furred, and ultra tenderized, if any was found.

    Tim,
